about

Colors of the Highway was written out in the woods in Asheville, NC on the back porch where my childhood best friend now lives. I remember the moment when the lyrics finally fell into place and the song found it's meaning. It was a way for me to express the push and pull I feel as a touring musician. The harsh edges vs the ecstatic revelry of this career can create a little tugging at my heart some days. It's a constant dance between finding positive momentum to keep moving yet not letting it's shadows hover in the corner for too long. Of course the real honest truth always comes out in the songs, and I guess that's why music is so compelling.

At the end of the day, it will always light my way whether I am battling with it like I would with a younger sibling or riding it like a western bound train through some peaceful field. Put simply, the 'Colors of the Highway' will never be as black and white as they appear outwardly, the spectrum of colors is truly never-ending and is where some of the best music lives.

lyrics

Oh I can taste the many colors of this highway
I’m gonna get there someday soon
Oh I can taste the many colors of this highway
I’m gonna get there someday

What’s it gonna be baby, you want me to take my life
What’s it gonna be this time, you want me to walk the line
Which side of the coin will I fall on tonight
What’s it gonna be baby this time
What’s it gonna be baby this time

I’m sure I’ll have the choice between remembered or forgotten
Either is fine by me
I’m sure I’ll have the choice between remembered or forgotten
Either is fine by me

Forgotten memories they go unseen
They done mind if they fail or achieve something
Remembered voices, they can burn a hole in your heart
Well, I might just prefer the mystery
I might just prefer the mystery

Oh I can taste the many colors of this highway
I’m gonna get there someday soon
Oh I can taste the many colors of this highway
I’m gonna get there someday

The hand that feeds, it moves so innocently
Doubles as a fist that’s coming back on me
But it will light my way through the darkest of hours

This highway was meant to find me
This highway was meant to find me
What’s it gonna be baby this time
What’s it gonna be baby
